This page is the starting point for exploring what we believe at Grace Church Gateshead. If you are considering church membership, please also see our page, what is membership and why does it matter?

The first two links below are short core doctrinal statements, and the subsequent three links are more detailed explanations of various doctrines and distinctives. At several points we make reference to our three networks; the North East Gospel Partnership (NEGP) locally, the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches (FIEC) nationally, and the Acts 29 network globally. The final link gives full-text copies of the ancient creeds and confessions to which GCG subscribes, and serves as a reminder of the rich theological heritage we are a part of.

A note on our partnerships: Whilst we are an independent church by conviction, we are also not an isolated church – by conviction. We understand the teaching of the Bible, and the faithful models of church history, to be that churches should govern themselves locally, by a plurality of elders, without an additional hierarchy removed from that local congregation. However, we also understand the teaching of the Bible, and the faithful models of church history, to insist on healthy, meaningful partnerships between local churches. For this reason we are committed to partnerships through the NEGP, FIEC, and the Acts 29 networks. A partnership does not give away control of a local church, though it does give great mutual support.
